So you have started seriously thinking about ways to play the Old Course St. Andrews and are wondering about the various ways to secure the most coveted tee time in golf? Here are our tips on planning a great St. Andrews Scotland Golf Trip.

  • Establish who will be playing and get financial commitment from your golf pals. You will need to have names, addresses, handicap, home club if applicable and email addresses for all guests planning on playing the Old Course.
  • Plan well in advance. We suggest being organized to have your group committed by June of the year in advance of your travel.
  • Applications for tee times are accepted late August of each year for following season. High season is May to September and certain months are a challenge - August and September (applications are not accepted for September).

Frequent questions - The Old Course. St. Andrews

  • What is the max handicap for men & women? For men its 24 and for ladies its 36.
  • Can I take a golf cart on the Old Course? This is a challenge and for the few available carts you must have a handicap certificate from your doctor and a copy of your drivers license and or vehicle handicap placard. Should a cart be available it is required to be driven only by your caddy.
  • Are caddies required? No but they will enhance your experience. Caddy fee guidelines for St. Andrews are £50 pounds plus tip of £20 pounds.
  • Are there things to do in St. Andrews for non golfers? Yes absolutely, the town is stunning and we can advise on great sightseeing options including boat trips nearby from Anstruther to The Isle of May.
